BOOMING TOURISM CREATES PROPERTY MARKET OPPOTUNITIES

Viet Nam’s flourishing tourism has stimulated the property market. From 2010-2016, the number of foreign visitors to Viet Nam doubled to 10 million people. Domestic tourists also increased, from 28 million to 62 million people.

Some localities, like Nha Trang, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc, recorded high tourism growth last year. Nha Trang city welcomed 1.2 million foreign tourists (up of 23%) and Da Nang 1.7 million foreign tourists (up 33%).

Infrastructure is an important factor in tourism development. Viet Nam now has 9 international airports. It had only 5 in 2010. The airports have continued to upgrade and open new terminals. Tourist visa regulations have been simplified and visa fees reduced. Phu Quoc, the only destination in Viet Nam where the policy of visa exemptions for foreign tourists is applied, has seen the number of tourists increase 25%.

5 MONTHS OF 2017: FORIGN VISITORS TO VIETNAM REACH 5.2 MILLION

More than 5.2 million international tourists travelled to Viet Nam in the first five months of 2017, an increase of 29.6% when compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office.

Viet Nam’s major tourism markets saw impressive growth. In particular, growth from Asian countries reached 3.82 million visitors, up 34.4% compared to the same period last year.

WORKSHOP DISCUSSES NEW TRENDS, DEMANDS IN TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

A workshop on new trends and demands in tourism development took place in Ha Noi on May 31, gathering managers, experts and businesses operating in the sector.

Discussions focused on a number of topics, including requirements for Viet Nam in tourism development in the new period, the 4th industrial revolution and changes in tourism business, e-marketing for Vietnamese tourism, and factors that affect tourism consumption amid global integration.

Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of the Institute for Tourism Development Research (ITDR), said 1.2 billion people worldwide travelled for holidays in 2016.

HUE TRADITIONAL CRAFT FESTIVAL WRAPS UP

The biennial Hue Traditional Craft Festival wrapped up on May 1, ending four festive days in the ancient capital city of Hue.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Dang Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Hue City People’s Committee highlighted that the seventh festival was a successful one. 

He said the festival honoured the quintessence of Vietnamese craftsmanship, enhanced business efficiency of traditional crafts while speeding up cooperation in multi-faceted fields, especially promoting socio-economic development and branching out craft products along with tourism.

The festival affirmed its brand as well as prestige among local people, tourists and artisans across the country, he added.

VIETNAM JOINS ASIAN-PACIFIC HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATION IN NEW YORK

Vietnamese cultural products were showcased at the Asia-Pacific American Heritage Month Celebration held at Stony Brook University, Sufolk county in New York City on May 13.

Viet Nam’s permanent mission to the UN and other Vietnamese representative agencies in New York brought to the festival images of the country’s famous landscapes, the beauty of ao dai and traditional art performances, along with key exports such as tea and coffee.

WINNERS OF SONGWRITING CONTEST ON VIETNAM – LAOS RELATIONS ANNOUNCED

An award ceremony was held in Ha Noi on May 15 to present prizes to ten most standout entries in a songwriting contest praising Viet Nam-Laos friendship relations.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien presented three second prizes to “Viet-Lao bien gioi Xa-ma-khi” (Viet Nam-Laos border solidarity) by Phan Van Minh from Quang Nam, “Tham tinh Viet Lao” (Viet Nam-Laos close relations) by Thai Duong from Thai Binh and “Mai xanh tuoi tinh huu nghi Viet-Lao” (Luxuriance of Viet Nam-Laos relations) by Van Thanh Nho from Ho Chi Minh City.

VIETNAM – ASIA SILK FESTIVAL TO TAKE PLACE IN HOI AN

The Viet Nam – Asia silk culture festival is scheduled to run in Hoi An silk village in the central province of Quang Nam between June 11 and 14.

The event aims at promoting and preserving the value of traditional silk villages across Viet Nam, including Van Phuc (Ha Noi), Hoi An and Ma Chau (Quang Nam), and Bao Loc (the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong), among others.

THE 7TH SOUTHERN LAND CUISINE FESTIVAL

From 24 to 28 May 2017, the 7th Southern Land Cuisine Festival with the participations of nearly 40 units and 70 booths of cuisine specialties from the regions of Viet Nam will take place in Dam Sen Cultural Park (3 Hoa Binh Street, District 11, Ho Chi Minh City).

The Southern Cuisine Festival is an annual event held to promote the unique culinary features of Viet Nam and also the South to international and domestic visitors.

VNAT MEETS FAMTRIP DELEGATION FROM SWITZERLAND

On 16 May 2017, Director of Tourism Marketing Department (Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism), Mr. Dinh Ngoc Duc had a meeting with famtrip delegation including tour operators and service suppliers from Switzerland.

At the meeting, Mr. Dinh Ngoc Duc warmly welcomed all member of delegation. He emphasized that Switzerland has been considered as a potential tourist market of Viet Nam tourism. In 2016, Viet Nam received more than 31,000 Swiss visitor arrivals, up 9.5% over 2015.

The 29th Joint Meeting of the UNWTO Commissions: Promoting the role of sustainable tourism in the International Year 2017

This is one of important contents in the 29th joint meeting of the UNWTO Commissions for East Asia - Pacific and South Asia held by World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in collaboration with Bangladesh Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism on 17 May 2017 in Chittagong City, Bangladesh.

The event had the attendances of Secretary General of UNWTO - Mr. Taleb Rifai, Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific of UNWTO – Mr. Xu Jing; officials of UNWTO, Bangladesh Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, national tourism organizations of UNWTO member countries; and representatives of international organizations.

At the meeting, Mr. Taleb Rifai confirmed tourism has become an essential demand of the human lifestyle. The world tourism has 7 consecutive growth years. In 2016, international visitors all over the world amount to more than 1.2 billion arrivals, increasing of nearly 4% over 2015. Tourism contributes about 10% global GDP, 30% of trade and service value; each 10 jobs generated in the world, 1 job is for tourism industry. Nowadays, tourism has become the third largest economic industry in the world.

Today world tourism has 3 priorities and 3 challenges in need of addressed: (1) Security and safety; (2) capture the development of digital technology – the factor can change the behavior of visitors; (3) Ensure long-term sustainable development.
