Japan-Viet Nam Festival attracts crowds in Ho Chi Minh City

With more than 140 booths on display by Vietnamese and Japanese businesses, the two-day festival provides visitors with an opportunity to explore the culture, arts, food, and tourism potential of each country.

There are also a range of entertainment and cultural activities, including a music show gathering famous Vietnamese and Japanese singers, a culinary fest, and seminars, which are held to increase mutual understanding and tighten the friendship between peoples of the two countries.

The annual festival aims to strengthen cultural links between Viet Nam and Japan, while opening up new opportunities for bilateral cooperation in other fields such as agriculture, education and tourism.

The festival welcomed nearly 200,000 visitors during last year’s edition.

Vietjet launches new route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Van Don

The budget carrier Vietjet Air has launched a new route between Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City and Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh Province.

The new service connects Viet Nam’s largest city with Quang Ninh Province, home to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay, meeting a growing demand for air transport in Viet Nam.

The launch ceremony took place at Van Don Airport, where passengers on the first flight of this route received gifts from Vietjet.

The HCMC – Van Don route operates return flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.


An Giang aims to serve 9.2 million visitors in 2019

The Mekong Delta province of An Giang has set to welcome 9.2 million foreign and domestic tourists in 2019, according Vice Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Pham The Trieu.

The local tourism sector aims to earn 5.5 trillion VND (nearly 236.6 million USD) from tourism in the year, up 14.58 percent against the same period last year. 

Trieu said the locality will focus on attracting investment to tourism infrastructure development in its key sites, especially the Sam Mountain national tourist site. 

Attention will be paid to promoting tourism development connection between An Giang and localities in the west of the Mekong Delta such as Can Tho, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, Hau Giang and Soc Trang.

HCM City Tourism Festival draws 350,000 visitors

The freshly-ended Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival 2017 attracted about 350,000 visitors, a rise of 20 percent over the previous year, according to the organizing board.

The four-day event saw the sale of 6,000 tours with total revenue of 60 billion VND (263,340 USD).

Addressing a closing ceremony on March 26, Le Truong Hien Hoa, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Tourism Promotion Agency said that the event contributed to boosting domestic tourism, introducing new destinations and creating a chance for travel agencies and customers to meet and trade.


EIU: Viet Nam determined to promote tourism

Viet Nam has deployed drastic measures to boost tourism in an effort to turn it into an important pillar of the economy, according to an analysis of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) under the UK-based Economist Group released on September 3. 

It highlights the attractive landscapes across Viet Nam as well as the nation’s initiative on visa exemption for tourists from the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy until the middle of 2017 to lure more international tourists.

Can Tho city wins Asian Townscape Award 2016

The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho has won the 2016 Asian Townscape Award from the Asia-Pacific regional office of the UN Human Settlements (UN-HABITAT) programme. 

The award seeks to honour significant efforts made by Asian cities and organisations for the improvement, revitalisation and creation of a beautiful and harmonious townscape that is safe and sustainable and respects history and local cultures. 

The awards ceremony for the contest, which consists of the Asian Townscape Prize and Jury Voting Prize, is expected to take place in China at the end of October. 


New York Times names Vietnam a place to travel in your 20s

A new travel check list by the New York Times has listed Viet Nam among 20 places you should visit in your 20s, an age when people are eager to explore the world but do not have a lot of money or time off from work.

Viet Nam is recommended as a country rich in cuisine, culture and natural beauty, as well as low prices. The country attracted 7.3 million foreign visitors in the first nine months of this year, up 25% on-year.

The magazine highlighted three particular destinations - Ha Long Bay, the ancient town Hoi An and the former capital Hue.

Tourism - important pillar in Viet Nam’s economy: EIU

Tourism has become an important pillar for Viet Nam’s economic growth, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) under the UK-based Economist Group.

The EIU suggested the Vietnamese Government invest in transport infrastructure and handle environmental problems to ensure sustainable growth.

The unit quoted data from the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism showing the number of foreign visitors to the Southeast Asian country surged sharply in 2016.

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) and Lenin Communist Youth Union held a cultural exchange programme in Moscow on December 12 to foster friendship and solidarity.

This voting result is based the opinions of millions of visitors on the quality of accommodation, restaurant, attraction, and growth in hotel booking demand. Accordingly, Da Lat and Sa Pa ranked 4th and 6th positions on the list.

Quang Ninh to unlock tourism potential of Cai Chien Island

Hai Ha District in the northern province of Quang Ninh has recently announced a plan to develop tourism in its Cai Chien Island Commune, which has beautiful beaches and primeval forests.

Ly Son begins construction of new US$9 million tourism port

Construction of the new Ben Dinh Tourism Port in Quang Ngai Province’s Ly Son Island district kicked off on November 23.

The VND200 billion (US$9 million) project is expected to meet the increased number of visitors to the island district, and is planned to be completed in 2018.


Ha Noi to promote its image on CNN

Chair of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has announced that the Committee has budgeted US$2 million of expenditures to promote the local advantages of the capital city on CNN.

Developing tourism in the Mekong River Delta region

The Prime Minister has approved the overall planning and a master plan for developing tourism in the Mekong River Delta region until 2020 with a vision extending to 2030.

The master plan aims to develop tourism commensurate with the region’s potentials and affirm its important position on Viet Nam’s tourism map.

Meanwhile, the plan also aims to create a driving force for socio-economic development, improving people's lives in the region and promoting a positive image of the Mekong River Delta to domestic and international visitors.

Covering an area of 40, 576 square kilometres, the Mekong River Delta region includes Can Tho city and the 12 provinces of An Giang, Ben Tre, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Long An, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh and Vinh Long provinces.

The region hopes to welcome 34 million tourists, including 3.5 million foreigners by 2020 and 52 million arrivals with 6.5 million foreigners by 2030. The region targets total revenue of VND 25 trillion (US$1.12 billion) by 2020 and VND 111 trillion (US$5 billion) by 2030.


Quang Ninh: 2,000 year-old tombs discovered

The museum of the northern province of Quang Ninh has cooperated with the History Faculty of the Ha Noi University of Social Sciences and Humanities to excavate two ancient tombs dating back from 1,800-2,000 years.

The tombs have been discovered in Mao Khe ward, Dong Trieu town on November 16 when a construction team was digging the foundation for a dyke near the gate of Sao Mai kindergarten.

Hanoi to hold flower street festival

The First International Tea Festival – Thai Nguyen, Vietnam 2011 closed at the Nui Coc Lake tourist site in the northern province of Thai Nguyen on November 15.

Sea and island to be featured at New Year flower festival 2012

The New Year flower festival in HCM City this year will feature traditional culture, modern life and focus on sea and island topic, said the city’s Vice Chair Hua Ngoc Thuan.

This year HCM City will continue organizing annual programs to welcome the New Year, including: decorating Nguyen Hue road with flowers and trees, holding a flower festival at Tao Dan Park and organizing 45 flower markets.


Soc Trang ready for second rice festival

Almost 1,000 booths for the Second Vietnam Rice Festival on Nov. 8-11 in the Mekong delta province of Soc Trang have already been booked, said Chairman of the Soc Trang Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Trung Hieu.

Hieu said that main activities of the festival will take place in Soc Trang city and preparations for the event have been completed.


Grand meeting marks Buddhist Sangha’s anniversary

Nation set to commemorate Hung kings

The Hung Temple Festival will take place on April 7 to commemorate the Hung kings in the northern province of Phu Tho.

The main ceremony, to be held on April 12 (the 10th day of third lunar month) will include incense-offering ceremonies to Au Co-Lac Long Quan, the ancestors of the Vietnamese and Hung kings.

Carrier to fly Can The Taiwan Tet specials

Museum gives insight into Bronze Age culture

Hung Kings Temple Festival

The number of visitors to this year’s Hung Temple Festival has increased sharply over the past five days, according to the festival organising board.

About 1.5 million visitors visited the Hung Temple between April 14-18, presenting an increase of 30% over the same period of last year’s event, the board said.


Bac Ninh Festival 2010
